BV, we meet again

I went to the OB today and he confirmed I do indeed have bacterial vaginosis- again. I must never have gotten rid of it considering I recently finished the course of treatment. Now I'm taking suppositories for it which are class B drugs but because the first drug didn't work this is the next course of action. I'm nervous but he said it only poses risk in the first trimester when organs are in their critical stage of development. So I'm still taking meds for the UTI, I took meds for the BV before, and now once again I'm taking meds. I really don't like to do this but I think I don't have a choice. I hate that. I hope they are right and it won't affect sunflower. I've also been having shooting pains in the round ligament area but so frequent it concerned me... he told me to up my water intake and it has been helping.

I'm VERY worried about this BV because studies have shown higher rates of preterm labor associated with it. Still, my cervix is long and closed, so I hope I will fall on the good side of the statistics in this area.

Can. Not. Wait. Until. May.

  1. you poor thing. altho i'm glad it's bv and not amniotic fluid. good to know everything else looks normal. try not to worry about drugs. zofran is class b and I'm taking it in the first tri. I am a firm believer that sometimes not treating is worse than treating, even if the latter involves drugs. i just keep thinking of all the women who don't know they're pregnant for weeks and weeks and all the poison they throw into their bodies. ibuprophen, alcohol, smoking, bre cheese, all the big no-no's. Just keep in mind how paranoid dr's are. It can't be that bad, esp if its only class b. Try to take it easy!

  2. well i'm glad that you know what's going on now, i totally understand your concerns about taking medication, i am on so much medication now it's terrible, but i guess without the medication my body might decide it can't handle being pergnant anymore and send the baby out before she's ready. i hope the bv and uti both clear up soon, such a bummer to have all that going on, very unpleasant.

  3. That sucks, I am so sorry. I hate being on the zofran and zantac too...

I hope it clears up for good this time.

  4. Having this condition not clear up really blows chunks. I really hope that they have the right protocol to get rid of it and make things better for your little Sunflower. Wishing you are feeling better soon. You deserve a chance to be able to relax and enjoy the pregnancy. I hope you get it.

  5. Don't worry about the drug - the risks of not clearing up the infection are greater than the risks of this drug, I'm sure of it. But more suppositories do suck!

  6. Ugh. Thinking of you and hoping that this round of meds will clear it up for good. I know taking them is scary (i had a UTI with this pregnancy and had to take meds), but the infection could be very harmful if it gets out of hand. Hang in there, sweetie--May will be here before you know it! ;)

  7. Sorry that it never really went away, I agree with Kate, the risk of what the BV brings on I would think are much more concerning then the drugs to fix them. I can't wait for May to meet your little Mr. Sunflower!

  8. Happy to hear that it's not something totally devastating, but completely understand your concerns.

They make such a big deal about everyday OC meds during the first trimester (and ibuprofen throughout!) that it seems rather contrary when they tell you to use something. I know, when we get pregnant again, I'm not going to take a darn thing unless they make me. Just not worth the risk. But in your case, it sounds like the infection itself is a greater threat than what they are giving you.

I hope it works and does so quickly so that you can relax a little bit.
