Questions Questions

I'm heading for the six week OB check-up on Monday and I'm nervous. What happens at this visit?? I'm nervous about the sugary drink they'll give me to recheck to see if the diabetes went away. I have PCOS and am insulin resistant so won't by numbers remain wonky? And, the real thing I'm worried about is the exam. I had a third degree tear. I am scared to death of what that means. Will the exam hurt like hell? Will I never have sex in the same way again?

I just got a post-partum belt because my friend told me it helps you get back into pre-baby shape faster. I'm not sure if it will help but I'm hoping. Any of you have good experiences with this?

Thank you in advance for any advice you may have!

  1. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no piece of advice, since I have no idea what what this check up involves.
But I am thinking of you and hoping that all your worries are put to rest by your OB and that you get home with great news that all is well.

  2. I got asked about continence issues. Waited till about 10 weeks for the appointment though. Pap was not pleasant (I never usually have discomfort), but the doc said that's from the lack of lube due to breastfeeding. I just felt like things had moved around inside. My cervix feels lower than it did before.

  3. i had a c-section so my pap wasn't bad, but my step-sister tore in THREE places when she had her daughter, think mercedes symbol. the doctor gave her some sort of estrogen cream which helped with the healing.

  4. It's been so long for me that I'm afraid I'm not much help. I did tear in three places and it was horrific the two weeks after SS was born. My first check up afterwards, all I remember is getting my Depo shot (horrible, horrible stuff), and him giving the ok for sex (as I laughed out loud...as if!). I don't remember a pelvic. That seems rather cruel really. I really hope they don't want to do anything like that this early.

  5. I had 3 tears and the 6 week checkup wasn't bad...although all he did was insert speculum and then take it out (Insert big question mark here). It's the rectum exam that hurt (yeah, for some reason that is required in Maryland, BOO).

  6. didn't have any tears, but i will say that the dryness due to bf-ing hormones can be uncomfortable, so i asked for extra lube which made it much better...didn't hurt at all.

i don't know what sex will be like--i'm still too afraid to try!

they did talk to me about family planning at this appt, though. i hope your appt is much better than you expect it will be! thinking of you.

  7. They didnt give me a sugary drink to test to make sure my GD went away (I have PCOS too). They did the A1C3 test, and a fasting blood sugar. In addition, Dr B did an internal to check my ovaries and uterus, and then a follow up ultrasound because my ovaries were still HUGE. We also discussed cycles and the fact that we dont believe in birth control, and things of that nature.

  9. I hope that your appointment went well.

I also have PCOS and we did not even discuss it at my post-partum appointment, but I did not have GD during pregnancy. I did have an internal exam, which left me sweating and seeing stars. I had torn during delivery, and continued having a lot of trouble DTD until I stopped breastfeeding at 1 year post-partum. I was given the estrogen cream, and that helped some, but mostly, the trouble persisted until breastfeeding ended.

    Good luck!

  10. I hope your appointment goes really well :) Mine was NOTHING like that - probably because I had a c-section. Just a quick look at the incision site (and missed the big lump of infection - doh!), and a quick BP check. That was IT.

I tried to see on your previous posts, but couldn't... are you back on the metformin?

  11. I hope your appointment went okay!! At mine, the doc mainly checked my C-section scar to make sure it was healing, of course. I hope you get all the answers you need, and a clean bill of health on the diabetes front. (BTW, my OB never rechecked my blood sugar. They are leaving that to me to schedule with my general practitioner. Yeah, I'll get right on that...)
